Habitat for Humanity of Iowa has announced the selection of Erich Kretzinger, executive director at Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity, to serve on the state association board of directors.
In his seventh year leading the local Habitat for Humanity affiliate serving Boone, Greene and Guthrie Counties, Kretzinger has guided new construction or renovation of ten homes with local low-income families, while also developing an owner-occupied critical home repair program serving an additional 19 families.
Called Helping Hands, the repair program has been adopted by Habitat for Humanity affiliates across the United States. Kretzinger was a featured presenter on the topic at the 2015 Habitat for Humanity National Conference as well as at the Iowa State Conference, two Minnesota State Conferences, plus nationwide webinars sponsored by Habitat for Humanity International.
Coming from an innovative, financially sound and well-managed rural affiliate, the Habitat for Humanity of Iowa board of directors will look to Kretzinger for representation of the unique challenges and opportunities faced by smaller affiliates. There are 21 such affiliates in Iowa.
A native of Jefferson and current resident of rural Boone County with his wife Kari, Kretzinger is a graduate of the University of Iowa college of business administration. Prior to joining Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity, Kretzinger created and owned commercial businesses in Iowa after periods in banking, investment planning and community-based commercial development.
